Two Languages, One Reader
Read and Write Back
I am an ordinary reader from China. I read in both Chinese and English. Though two languages live far apart, I found the same resonance from books in them—with one person’s love, loneliness, belonging, courage, and dreams. LeiRead is my letter to these beautiful books.

My Old Love of English
Hello, I’m Leigh, an ordinary reader. English is not my first language. It wasn’t my major, either.
I was born in a small town ringed by mountains. Until I was twelve, I had never heard a single English word. But on a cold, wet winter night, I fell in love with English. That night, my English teacher taught me to sing “You Are My Sunshine.”
I’m forty-four now. For twenty years, I was busy with work and family. I almost lost myself. Now I want to feel that thrill again — and find myself again. So I started LeiRead, where I share my notes and book lists.
Every book here, I have read myself and loved. They aren’t all classics, and their subjects are all over the map, but the language is simple and beautiful. Most of all, they are readable — even if English is not your first language.
Life is like morning dew; the days gone by are painfully many. But good books light me up again and again, turning ordinary days into perfect days. If you, too, want to feel this joy, this is your study.
Welcome. Come in.
